Dance Classes

MARK HINDLE - BALLET

Developing Grand Allegro:

This class explores the biomechanics and coordinative principles that underpin effective Grand Allegro. Teachers will examine how elevation, dynamic clarity, and safe landing are achieved through efficient use of plié, alignment, muscular engagement and timing.

Through progressive enchaînements, participants will analyse the phases of jumping – from preparation and propulsion to suspension and landing – gaining insight into how these components affect height, control and injury prevention. Particular focus will be given to the integration of port de bras with the legs and torso, highlighting how coordinated upper-body use contributes to lift, balance and momentum.

Elements of plyometric training will be incorporated to demonstrate how power, reactive strength and neuromuscular efficiency can be developed and transferred into allegro work. Participants should bring trainers. Rhythmic variation and non-standard time signatures will also be used to enhance speed, musicality, and precision of the gesturing leg.

Performance and Pedagogy:

This class focuses on ballet as a performance practice, emphasising artistic intention, musicality and expressive movement alongside technical clarity. Teachers will explore how phrasing, dynamics, épaulement and port de bras contribute to projection and stage presence.

The session will also address pedagogical strategies, including the cycle of feedback and the use of cueing to support learning. Participants will consider how effective verbal, visual and kinaesthetic cues can improve focus, motor learning and student independence, enabling more efficient and meaningful technical and artistic development.
