The Sheffield Dance Competitions at CYD? offer dancers aged 8+ an exciting chance to showcase their talent on a professional platform. Open to all genres, the top Junior (8-13) and Senior (14+) groups from each regional qualify for the grand finals in Liverpool, with additional Wildcard Winners chosen at each event. Schools may enter one Junior and one Senior group, adhering to competition rules such as a 3.5-minute routine limit and safe costume guidelines. Performances are scored on technique, choreography, presentation, and overall impression, with valuable feedback provided after the event to help dancers grow.

What else to expect

Alongside the Competition, we offer a Performance Showcase which is a non-competitive platform for groups to shine on stage, share their skills and have fun without the pressure of competition, making it inclusive for all dance schools. We have Masterclasses led by top CYD? choreographers and our online timetable allows dancers to customise day by selecting their preferred styles, tutors and levels. The vibrant CYD? Exhibition is a hub of activity, featuring top performing arts colleges, dancewear brands and exclusive CYD? merchandise, along with interactive experiences like the Showtime Circus and AcroPAD. We also offer exciting prizes and scholarships, including the chance to be scouted for the CYD? Dancer of the Year final, along with audition cards and other awards, ensuring every dancer leaves inspired.

Everyone coming to a Regional Convention needs a separate entry ticket. NO classes are included in entry ticket prices. Masterclass tickets must be purchased separately. Spectator entry tickets are also available.

SHEFFIELD COMPETITIONS FAQs

How many dancers can be in the group?

Groups must have a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 40 dancers.

How long can the music be?

Routine length must not exceed 3.5 minutes. Music exceeding this limit will be returned for editing, and 5 points will be deducted for every 10 seconds over the limit. All music must be submitted 10-14 days prior to the event via a provided upload link.

What are the scoring categories?

Adjudication will be based on four key criteria:

Choreography
Presentation
Overall Impression

Your scores and performance level will be emailed to you after the event, providing valuable feedback to enhance your performance for future competitions.
